Luke 1:67, 76-80

There is a voice calling in the desert! “Prepare for the coming of the Lord!” This Sunday we will hear the voice of John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin, as the voice of Elijah proclaiming that the promised Messiah is coming. Jesus born in Bethlehem is a new king, and this king changes how we live. Don’t miss this Sunday, when we hear this voice of Christmas tell us how Christmas changes our lives!

As we prepare for Christmas, we are going to be hearing the voices of those who are part of the first Christmas. This Sunday the angel Gabriel will come and speak words of excitement, anticipation and blessing. Don't miss this first witness in "The Voices of Christmas!"

Matthew 17:27

November 11 is Veterans Day. We stop to give thanks to all those who have served our country and helped make it such a great nation. Yet we realize that our country also  struggles to do what is right and good. We are in an election year, and as we watch the rhetoric, we wonder if as a country we are able to rise above our differences and work together for what makes our country great. In the comic world, Captain America embodies all that is good about veterans and the ideals for which they have always fought. This Sunday we will use the figure of Captain America to explore how we, as people of faith who strive to serve God heroically, should we live out our faith as American citizens. Don’t miss it!

Luke 4:18-19

The newest box office superhero hit is Avengers: Age of Ultron. While a great movie, it also captures how working together with a constantly changing group of people who come with different backgrounds and different life experiences can be challenging. We can relate to this! Time and time again, however, The Mighty Avengers find a way to work together to save the world. As we strive to live out heroic lives by linking up with others we struggle to understand and agree with, God gives us the grace and wisdom necessary to work together for God’s good in our torn world. Come to find out how you can receive this grace and wisdom, too!

 

Micah 6:8

During the day, Matt Murdock is a lawyer who tirelessly strives as an advocate for justice by taking on cases no one else will. This Sunday is Superhero Sunday! We’re starting our new series, Marvelous Myths, where we look at popular Marvel supreheroes to see examples and lessons of how we all can live heroic lives. Our first message uses the Fantastic Four, four ordinary people who are infused with cosmic rays that cause them each to develop unique superpowers. They commit to work for good and to fight crime. Yet their biggest challenges are learning to get along and work together. This is a powerful message we all need to hear! We are ordinary people infused with divine power to work for good. Yet sometimes our biggest challenges are around learning to work together and getting along. You don’t want to miss this exciting issue...er...I mean message. “Fantastic Four: Family, Friends and Foes.”
