Heritage
Forest Hills is part of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide movement rooted in the teachings of John Wesley. Our Methodist heritage emphasizes God’s grace, faithful discipleship, and a life devoted to loving God and serving others.
Who was John Wesley?
John Wesley (1703–1791) was an Anglican priest whose passion was helping people grow in a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Along with his brother Charles and a small group of friends at Oxford University, Wesley emphasized prayer, Bible study, accountability, and practical acts of mercy. Their disciplined approach to the Christian life earned them the nickname “Methodists.”
Although Wesley never intended to begin a new denomination, his ministry sparked a movement that spread throughout England and eventually around the world. His preaching emphasized that God’s grace is available to everyone and that faith in Christ transforms both our hearts and the way we live.
Today, the United Methodist Church continues that Wesleyan tradition by encouraging believers to grow in faith, love God wholeheartedly, and serve their neighbors with compassion.

John Wesley believed that faith is more than knowledge—it is a life transformed by Christ. As followers of Jesus grow in faith, they naturally express that faith through worship, compassion, generosity, and service to others.
